Reproduction pottery and found artifacts from the Weeden Island Native Americans
The Museum’s Native American collection is small but growing. A favorite display for young and old alike is our collection of projectile points. While commonly called arrowheads, not everything in the collection was used on arrows. Some are large and were probably spear points and others have the distinctive form of drill points. Nearby is a collection of pottery that, although reproductions, are faithful copies of original pots found in Native American mounds in Grady County. This pottery was originally formed by people of the Weeden Island culture.
Grady County is fortunate to have a Native American reservation within its borders and future exhibits are planned in cooperation with native authorities.
